Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is MTA the same as the Marlborough Tennis Club ("MTC")?
A. No, even though our names are similar we are quite separate entites and do different things. MTA is the governing body for all tennis in the region. Whereas the MTC is one of the clubs in the region who own and operate facilities and provide their members with club activities.

Q. Can I play in a MTA organised event if I am not a member?
A.
Players who join one of the Clubs in Marlborough and pay a full membership fee are entitled to participate in our events. Part of your club fee goes to MTA and to Tennis NZ.

Q. Juniors who play in the Primary School Competition each Saturday, are they members of a club?
A.
Yes, part of the fee you pay to us via the school to play in this event goes to the club of your choosing so that you become a fully paid member of that club.

Q. Why must I only purchase Head Tennis Balls for the Championship Interclub Competition and why must I buy them locally?
A.
Head kindly sponsor a supply of tennis balls to run our tournaments and competitions. Without their support, affiliation and entry fees would be higher to cover this large cost. The number of balls sponsored is determined by the number of Head balls sold in this region from all outlets. Therefore in order to maximise the number of sponsored balls we receive, it is in all members best interest to buy Head locally i.e. not online nor from parallel import.

Q. If we already pay an affiliation fee, why must we pay to enter tournaments and competitions?
A.
Affiliation fees only go so far. MTA's annual expenses are around $100,000 and affiliation fees cover about 20% of that cost.
